Week in pictures: Hong Kong

This week saw the swanky new opening of Dining Concepts’ Alto restaurant, an evening of oysters and Chablis guzzling, a Wine Advocate tasting and a trip to PMQ’s The Drawing Room for dining and er, drawing.

A bounty of bivalves! Huîtres Marennes Oléron and Bourgogne Wine Board hosted a delicious oyster and Chablis pairing at Seafood Room to highlight what must be one of the world’s best thought out food/wine combinations. A particularly crowd-pleasing pair was Domaine Louis Moreau 2008 grand cru twinned with Spéciale de Claire oyster baked with grilled cheese and summer truffle.

Next up was the glitzy opening bash of Dining Concepts’ new high altitude restaurant, Alto with chef, Michael Boyle’s “grill-centric” menu.

A little fizz of home: English sparkler, Chapel Down was in full flow at Restaurant and Bar Hong Kong at Continental Wines’ stand.

Wine Advocate and the Michelin Group were in town to launch the Michelin Dining Series with WA editor-in-chief Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW hosting a tasting of pretty Pomerols: Chateau Latour 2011, Chateau La Fleur-Petrus 2012 and Chateau Trotanoy 2011. Pictured above are: Bernard Delmas, senior vice president of Michelin Group, Ted Chan, COO of Melco Crown Entertainment, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of Macao Government tourist office and Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW.

Colouring in before dinner! dbHK headed off to The Drawing Room (formerly Vasco) to sample its five course tasting menu with wine. Firstly there was some competitive drawing to be done…

A particular pleasing dish was the marinated pink shrimp with avocado and green apple served with a zippy glass of Friulano, Toc Bas from Ronco del Gelso!
