Mark Chandler, who founded his own wine consultancy business in 2011, has served as a chief judge at the California State Fair Wine Competition since 2015 and was briefly a CEO of WineAmerica. Before that he spent twenty years as an executive director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission, where he worked to expand the number of winery members in the appellation and oversaw the expansion of the wine-growing area.  He is currently serving as Mayor of Lodi, one of California’s grape-producing areas, which accounts for around 20% of the the region’s wine production.

John Gillespie, president of Wine Market Council said Chandler’s experience in managing and growing key wine industry associations would be “invaluable” to the Wine Market Council.

Chandler said the needs of the members were of paramount importance to the council. “I look forward to working closely with members to provide them with important wine industry research and data points that assist them in making crucial business decisions,” he said.

The announcement comes shortly after the organization, which represents grape growers, wine producers, importers, wholesalers, retailers, and affiliated wine businesses in California, announced a new partnership with the Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University as it seeks to boost its academic credentials and provide greater transparency.
