Penhaligon’s scents turned into cocktails

French restaurant Plateau in Canary Wharf has teamed up with perfumier Penhaligon’s to release a quartet of cocktails inspired by British aristocracy.

The Tragedy of Lord George

Working closely with the Canary Wharf branch of Penhaligon’s, the restaurant has created four cocktails based on the brand’s new Portraits Collection.

Inspired by the British aristocracy of the Victorian period, the Portraits Collection pays tribute to the English spirit, sense of humour and love of provocation.

Each of the four fragrances attempts to conjure the personality of the fictitious character it’s inspired by in scent.

With a golden stag’s head stopper, The Tragedy of Lord George is a “masculine and elegant” scent with notes of “brandy, shaving soap, and tonka bean”. Plateau’s cocktail equivalent features Atlantico Rum, chilli truffle tea, and Lapponica lingonberry liqueur.

The Coveted Duchess Rose fragrance meanwhile, is “delicate and woody” with notes of “mandarin, rose, and musky wood”. The cocktail based on her blends Ketel One vodka, La Diabada Pisco, rose syrup and Peychaud’s bitters.

Priced at £12, the four new cocktails will be available from Plateau’s bar from 3 October to 30 November. Each drink will be served with a sample of the scent.

The four perfumes cost £178 each for 75ml. This isn’t the first time Penhaligon’s has teamed up with a bar on bespoke cocktails. Last February the company collaborated with the Highline bar in Hong Kong on a collection of cocktails inspired by Penhaligon’s scents.
