Sotheby’s SQN stunners

An extremely rare collection of coveted cult wine Sine Qua Non in magnum formats will be on offer at Sotheby’s upcoming Hong Kong auction.

Featuring multiple vintages of First Growths and Right Bank rarities as well as New World gems, Sotheby’s auction on 3 September comprises over 800 lots estimated at HK$13-19 million (US$1.7 – 2.4 million).

Serena Sutcliffe MW, honorary Chairman of Sotheby’s Wine said: “We are very excited to present this outstanding single owner sale from a good friend of Sotheby’s and a gifted and adventurous wine collector who has covered the best viticultural areas of the world.

“It makes one gasp to see the breadth of choice and winemaking talent contained in this sale – you could call it ‘perfect pitch’. The span of wine styles and regions, vintages and formats is extraordinary, illustrating the consumer curiosity of this collector who wanted to taste and experience such a wide variety of fabulous wines from both the New and the Old Worlds.”

A particular draw – especially for cult wine lovers – is a rare back vintage collection of Sine Qua Non in magnum format.  A mixed case of Omega 2003, The Hussy Roussanne Chardonnay 2000 and B 20 Syrah 2008 is estimated between HK$22,000-32,000 per case (US$2,800-4,000) whereas six bottles of Just for the Love of It Syrah is expected to fetch between HK$40,000-55,000 (US$5,000-7,000).

Adam Bilbey head of Sotheby’s Wine Asia, said, “This September, we are especially delighted to offer an array of magnificent vintages spanning 65 years that represent some of the finest Bordeaux châteaux from both the left and right bank in rare formats.

“This is mirrored by an eclectic mix of mature vintages from iconic estates across the New World that one seldom sees on the market. With a plethora of rare larger formats on offer, this gives wine collectors an opportunity to indulge in some of the finest wines produced from across the globe – a chance no true wine lover should miss!”
