Sovereign releases Bumbu rum in HK

Sovereign Brands’ owners Brett and Brian Berish have just launched a new ‘craft’ rum, Bumbu onto the Hong Kong market.

Aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels and blended in Barbados, Bumbu has been created from sugarcane sourced from Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guyana and Honduras.

Brett and Brian Berish, owners of wine company, Sovereign Brands have worked with distillers of the West Indies Rum Distillery to create a small-batch rum which harks back to the original West Indian spiced rum recipes from the 16th and 17th centuries.

“Bumbu” was the name given to rum with Caribbean fruits and spices added by sailors and merchants to liven up the flavour.

Brett Berish said: “Each of the eight countries has the ideal climate and mineral-rich soil critical to growing premier quality sugarcane, and each individual sugarcane harvest lends distinct characteristics to our Bumbu blend – from notes of coffee and cacao to aromas of coriander and ginger, and tropical fruits like mango and papaya. At 35% ABV, Bumbu is ideal for sipping and mixing.”

Bumbu’s glass bottle is paperless with an “X” on the front in pewter and a gilded map of the Caribbean Islands across the back. The punt of the bottle is embossed with Bumbu’s signature “X” and the bottle is closed with a natural cork applied by hand.

It will be imported to Hong Kong via Lighthouse with an RRP of HK$600.
