‘Full English’ cocktail celebrates national day

An East London bar is offering a special cocktail for St. George’s Day that taps into the stalwarts of the English breakfast table and is served in a baked bean tin.

In a week where the English public celebrate their National Day, see the Queen turning 90, and honour the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, you could forgive the team at the Victory Mansions in London’s Stoke Newington for letting their chests puff up with patriotic pride. The result: for a limited time only, they’re offering a cocktail special, the Full English.

Built from the key ingredients of a breakfast fry-up, the cocktail is effectively a souped-up Bloody Mary. In appropriate breakfast style, the vodka used is Black Cow, a Dorset-made spirit made entirely from milk. Added to this is some black pudding fat, tomato juice, horseradish and a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

If that wasn’t enough, they’ve added a spot of Colman’s mustard, some HP sauce and even a touch of Marmite, all set off with a garnish of streaky bacon, toast, tomato and a pickled quail’s egg.

Describing itself as a “local, East London tavern” Victory Mansions is no greasy spoon. The closest you’ll get to a ‘Full English’ on their normal food menu is a Brunch offering “Smashed avocado, crispy sichuan quinoa, and sourdough toast”.

The Full English cocktail is only available until April 24th.
