Office gives workers unlimited free beer

While most of us have to make do with a water cooler to refresh ourselves at work, a shared office space has been granted permission to give workers endless supplies of free beer instead.

Council authorities have given WeWork, a shared office space in Soho, London, the freedom to serve unlimited amounts of beer to workers.

The rental work space has been dishing up free beer to its tenants since April last year, unknowingly breaching strict licensing laws.

But after WeWork argued its case at a Licensing Committee hearing, Westminster Council has given the idea the green light.

Craig Baylis, a solicitor representing WeWork, is quoted in the Evening Standard explaining the concept to the committee, saying: “It’s Friday, and I’ve had enough.

“I go to the beer tap, help myself with my mug or whatever then I go back to my office and drink my beer while I finish off my work. There’s nothing to stop anyone from taking the beer back to their screen.”

He said that workers have permission to use the beer tap “whenever they want”.

WeWork, A US-based company which operates shared offices in New York and London, has been contacted for comment.
