Frozen cocktail brand unveils mulled wine iced lolly

A London-based frozen cocktail startup is inviting customers to have a cool Christmas with the launch of a mulled wine iced lolly.

In flat defiance of the generally bleak seasonal weather, the Lic Mulled Wine Frozen Cocktail will be available as a limited edition product at Lic special events over the Christmas period. The brand is also in discussions to stock the product in “a few alpine-themed bars” for the rest of the season.

Launched at London’s first mulled wine festival last month and priced at £4, the product uses Chianti red wine along with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, bay leaves, oranges, limes and lemons, the brand said.

Lic produces two other flavours of alcoholic iced lolly: Piña Colada and Mojito.

According to Lic, the frozen cocktails are made with a pioneering technology for creating a frozen drink with the strength of an alcoholic cocktail of up to 15% ABV.

The technology also means the product can be shipped at ambient temperature rather than being frozen first and requiring constant temperature control. The product can also be bought in its unfrozen state then frozen at home.

Lic was invented by university graduates Harry Stimpson and Noah Geeves. The pair’s Piña Colada and Mojito Frozen Cocktails have been sold at the Mayfair nightclub Mahiki and at the club’s summer functions this year, including Henley Regatta, Polo In The Park and V Festival.
