‘Biggest ever’ Australia Day tastings planned

Next year’s Australia Day tastings will be the biggest yet with consecutive events planned for London, Dublin and Edinburgh.

Taking place from 26-28 January, the three tastings will offer a “comprehensive showcase” of Australian wine with the London tasting featuring more than 1,000 wines from 245 wineries and 63 exhibitors.

The inclusion of Edinburgh marks Wine Australia’s return to Scotland after a seven year absence while this is the third year in a row that the tasting has taken place in Dublin. Those two tastings will offer over 200 wines and, it is hoped, will “reinvigorate interest and Australian wine sales in this market”.

Wine Australia’s UK and European head, Laura Jewell MW, said: “For the UK January is closely associated with Australian wine thanks to years of successful Australia Day Tastings in London. Now we’re excited to extend this event to give a greater audience the opportunity to taste these exceptional wines and meet many of the winemakers behind them,’ she said.

“These are all strong markets for Australian wine and we’re delighted to bring these events together for the first time. I’m again calling for winemakers to join us on tour so collectively we can champion our wines to all sectors of the trade.”
