‘Exceptionally rare Burgundy’ headlines Acker auction

Acker Merrall & Condit’s November auction will feature a diverse array of back vintages from Château de La Tour and cellar treasures from iconic US collector, Wilf Jaeger.

Including the much-lauded Hommage à Jean Morin made from the oldest Clos de Vougeot vines planted in 1910, the next Acker auction offers “two superb collections” on 7 November at the Grand Hyatt.

Lots 312-343 include a direct consignment of bottles and magnums that have been perfectly stored at Chateau de La Tour’s cellar dating back to the 1940s and made by celebrated winemaker Francois Labet.

The Hommage à Jean Morin of which fewer than 50 cases were made, was only produced in exceptional vintages and is offered via bottle, magnum, jeroboam and even Balthazar and Nebuchadnezzar formats.

Renowned US collector Wilf Jaeger has also donated many of his prized wines (lots 344-523) including plenty of iconic Burgundy of 1961 Ausone, 1928 Cheval Blanc, 1949 Cheval Blanc, 1961 Gruaud Larose, 1961 Montrose, 1928 Mouton, 1971 Petrus, 1947 Trotanoy and Yquem spanning 1929 to 1990.

There are also 38 lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti including six vintages of Echezeaux, five from Grands Echezeaux, seven of La Tache, three from Richebourg, five from Romanée-Conti and nine of Romanée St. Vivant, dating back to 1935.

“Burgundy is Wilf’s true passion,” said John Kapon Acker’s CEO, “with DRC being the brightest star in his shining cellar. This is one of the world’s greatest collections, and we are very honored to be able to offer these increasingly rare and fine wines .Treasures like these are what make our hearts pound. This is a collection fit for a king and a connoisseur, and if there ever were one and the same, it would be this most distinguished, appreciated and loved collector.”
