Hotel sets record for largest Champagne tasting

A hotel in California has broken the record for the world’s largest Champagne tasting, with more than 600 people gathering to taste Ruinart, Moët and Veuve Clicquot Champagnes

More than 620 guests and staff gathered at the hotel to taste three Champagnes; Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, Veuve Clicquot Rosé, and Dom Pérignon 2004, guided by Hoagland to break the record for the world’s largest Champagne tasting.

The record was previously set by Eurostar, which hosted a Champagne tasting for 515 of its passengers travelling from London to Paris with the help of Michelin-starred chef Raymond Blanc in October 2014. The chef works with Eurostar’s kitchens to create its menus and surprised passengers in October with an impromptu tasting led by Arnaud Goubet, his sommelier from Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxford.

This record broken in February of this year when the XO Group in New York hosted a tasting for 518 people, who sampled Champagnes from Charles Ellner of Epernay, including Brut Carte Blanche and Brut Cuvee de Reserve.

The record now stands at 620 people and is held by the Viejas Casino & Resort in San Diego.
