Men down $1k of ‘aphrodisiac’ wine at airport

Rather than wasting expensive alcohol, two Chinese air passengers downed an entire bottle of aphrodisiac wine after being stopped by security, reported online news source the Shanghaiist.

So say aphrodisiac wine such as this, is made in China and commonly smuggled outside.

Before two men attempted to board a flight at Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou, the security official spotted a large ornament in one of their bags which was revealed to be a tiger sculpture containing wine purporting to have aphrodisiac properties. Such wine often contains parts of endangered species but is commonly available in China for people to buy for its reputed side effects.

One of the men called Wang was reported to have said, “It’s good stuff inside. It’s aphrodisiac wine and you know, it’s very, very expensive and cost us a good 8,000 yuan.” (US$1,300)

When the official informed them that as the contents was more than the 100ml allowed on board and therefore they were not allowed on the flight, both passengers immediately started drinking the wine and managed to finish the entire bottle within a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately, the flushed faced men were then told that intoxicated passengers weren’t permitted to fly but were eventually let off after the men pleaded with the security official to let them on.

“We won’t bring this kind of stuff anymore. If we do, we will register it as checked baggage,” Wang admitted in hindsight.
