McGuigan UK’s fourth biggest brand

Australian brand McGuigan has become the fourth biggest wine by volume in the UK following a 22% increase in sales in the past year.

The performance comes on the back of an improved half year profit of AU$4.4 million for parent company Australian Vintage and an increase in sales of 28% across the UK and Europe for McGuigan in the last six months.

The brand has leapfrogged Gallo to become the fourth biggest in the UK and Nielsen figures to 28.03.15 show sales volumes of 15,246,020 litres to Gallo’s 15,124,007.

The company has also secured a listing with UK supermarket Asda, which will begin stocking the Classic, Reserve and Shortlist ranges this month and the deal means that the brand’s core wines are distributed in the top four UK multiple retailers, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.

Julian Dyer, general manager for Australian Vintage UK & Europe, said: “We are focused on continued growth as a brand and on gaining market share through sustainable and profitable expansion. Our philosophy is to bring quality wines at affordable prices to the market, and we are pleased to have secured this new distribution channel”.
