Dead spider found in Smirnoff vodka

Diageo has launched an investigation after a dead spider was found floating inside a bottle of Smirnoff vodka.

The spider was found inside a bottle of Diageo’s Smirnoff Gold vodka.

The arachnid was discovered by Luke Millard, from Birmingham, inside a bottle of Smirnoff Gold, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

Speaking to the paper the 30-year-old said: “I know Tequila has a worm in it, but I don’t think that spider is supposed to be there. We bought the drinks as Christmas presents about three weeks ago, but then my partner spotted the spider – and it was a big one. We haven’t got a clue how it got in there – the bottle was totally sealed. No way were we going to drink out of that.”

Diageo has since launched an investigation to find out how the insect came to be in one of its bottles, and sent Mr Millard a £40 voucher.

A spokeswoman for Diageo, who confirmed that the bottle was produced and packaged in Santa Vittoria in Italy, said: “The investigation into this bottle is ongoing by our dedicated Quality Assurance team. We have apologised for any distress that may have been caused to the consumer and have also given him some vouchers for a replacement bottle.”
