Entire Grange range on sale for £358K

A collection of Penfolds Grange spanning every vintage it was made from 1951 to 2010 has gone on sale at fine wine store Le Clos in Dubai for £358,596.

The extremely rare 1953 vintage of Grange

Among the collection to go on sale at the retailer, housed within Dubai International Airport, are the “hidden vintages” of 1957, 1958 and 1959 made by chief winemaker at the time, Max Schubert, and stored in an underground cellar.

The range also includes the extremely rare 1953 vintage of Grange, of which there are thought to be only a handful left in the world.

Highlights of the collection include the celebrated vintages of 1955, 1990 and 2008.

Six vintages were re-corked by Penfolds’ chief winemaker Peter Gago before going on sale with Gago certifying the authenticity of the collection before it was put up for sale.

Le Clos has designed a climate controlled installation to tell the story of Grange to its customers, along with a video charting Max Shubert’s reign as custodian of Grange from 1948 to 1975, and a microsite featuring a historical timeline of the wine.

“We’re honoured to have the opportunity to bring such an iconic wine to our customers travelling through Dubai International,” said Oliver Dixon, head of wine at Le Clos:

“Having such an iconic Australian wine will further strengthen our New World wine portfolio – this collection is going to be a huge draw for our customers from all over the world,” he added.

Gago added: “We’re delighted that Le Clos has curated the complete 60 years of Penfolds Grange vintages.

“With a reputation for bringing rare and unique products to market, Le Clos is an ideal location to bring the Penfolds Grange story to global consumers.”

To protect the wine, Le Clos transported the collection to Dubai in climate controlled storage, where its temperature was regularly monitored. Le Clos has five retail outlets within Dubai International Terminal 3 Departures.
