Gallo donates $100k to Napa quake fund

The E&J Gallo Winery has donated US$100,000 to the American Red Cross to help winemakers affected by the earthquake that struck Napa Valley last month.

Napa’s wine industry is estimated to have lost US$80 million after a quake measuring 6.1 on the richter scale ripped through the region in the early hours of Sunday, 24 August, on the eve of the 2014 harvest.

In a report released last week by Silicon Valley Bank, commissioned by Napa County officials and Napa Valley Vintners trade group, the damage caused to the industry has been estimated at $80.3m.

The estimate related to damage caused to winery buildings, infrastructure, equipment, vineyard irrigation systems and the cost of clean up and removal of debris and waste.

Joseph Gallo, chief executive officer and president of the E. & J. Gallo Winery said: “On behalf of our employees and their families, we are making this donation to help the rebuilding effort and to provide aid and comfort to the victims of this disaster.”

The donation will assist the Red Cross recovery response efforts and meet ongoing demands throughout the Napa Valley.
