Star Trek Klingon beer ‘Warnog’ launched

Warnog, the official beer of Star Trek’s infamous Klingon baddies, is set to be unleashed onto the US market.

Warnog, a Roggen Dunkel style 5.5% ale “incorporates rye malt into a modern Dunkelweizen grain bill, creating a flavor profile that is both familiar and unique,” the Federation of Beer said in a statement.

It continued: “Warnog’s aroma is predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt.

“The flavor draws heavily from the blending of the rye malt and traditional clove character, creating a very rich and unique flavor. The inclusion of wheat and caramel malts help to round out the mouthfeel of this beer, making this Dunkelweizen hearty enough to be called a Klingon Warnog.”

In the Star Trek verse, Warnog was a traditional ale drunk by Klingons which featured in both The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine TV series.

The Klingons, a fictional humanoid species of warriors, were recurring baddies in the television series which was first launched in the 1960s.

The Federation of Beer is a Canadian company which has an official partnership with the Star Trek franchise and has commissioned the Warnog ale to be brewed by the Tin Man Brewing Company of Evansville, Indiana.

Warnog will be the first Star Trek beer to hit the US market and follows the release of the franchise’s Vulcan Ale last year, but which is only available in Canada.

It will be unveiled on 25 March at the Nightclub & Bar Show in Las Vegas and will be available in the US and Canada.
