Mateus launches ‘Expressions’ range

Portugal’’s Mateus has launched its new Expressions range featuring four wines combining “Portuguese and international varietals”.

The Mateus brand has 1.4million consumers in the UK, according to Kantar figures, with its parent company Sogrape, a portuguese wine company, set to invest £2m on its UK branding during 2014.

Matt Douglas, managing director of Stevens Garnier, who handle the Mateus brand in the UK, said research had shown Mateus to have an “exceptionally strong brand recognition in the UK” which he felt presented the company with the opportunity to offer a number of Portuguese wine varietals through its new range.

The ‘Expressions range consists of three rosé wines – Baga & Shiraz, Baga & Muscat and Aragonez & Zinfandel – and one white wine – a Maria Gomes & Chardonnay blend.

Mateus was first developed in 1942 by Sogrape, a leading Portuguese wine company, and is well-known for what was its first wine, Mateus Rosé.

All wines have an RRP of £7.99 and were presented on at the UKs Wines of Portugal tasting on Wednesday, 5 March.
