10. Nine Lounge and Bar – Thailand

Located five minutes from Patong on the Kalim beach front, the Nine Lounge and Bar is regarded as one of Phuket’s most stylish bars and can be hired for private events for just 1,450 baht per person (£26) which include free flowing drinks. (minimum spend required)

Boasting floor to ceiling views of Nagasaki this club is a haven for those with a passion for hip-hop and soul with regular MCs guest starring. The age of its clientele tends to vary widely with cool lighting a generally mellow atmosphere where the party will stretch into the night with a closing time of 4am.

The Wine Pub, sometimes known as WP, is located in the Pullman Hotel and specialise in wines in a city where beer still reigns supreme. It boasts a selection of more than 100 wine labels and a rotating selection of six wines by the glass.

7. Old Imperial Bar – Japan

Imperial Hotel, 1-1-1 Uchisaiwaicho, Tokyo

The Imperial Hotel was designed by architect Frank-Lloyd Wright and opened in 1923, the same day of the Great Kanto Earthquake which killed more than 130,000 people and destroyed the city. Miraculously the hotel escaped unscathed however 45 years later it was deemed unsafe and demolished. Pieces of the original 1923 Imperial Hotel were incorporated into its replacement, built in 1970, and the Old Imperial bar retains much of its 1923 charm and iconic status. 

6. New York Bar – Japan


Nishi-Shinjuku 3-7-1, Tokyo

The New York Bar in Tokyo is located on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt Tokyo and is regularly featured in lists of the world’s best roof-top bars. On clear days you can see Mount Fuji from its floor to ceiling windows.  In a nod to its name sake, the bar boasts the largest selection of American wines in Japan and more than 40 liqueurs, 15 cognacs and a vast array of spirits.

5. Potato Head – Bali

The Potato Head Beach Club opened in late 2010 and enjoys an enviable position set on the tropical beachfront. The large complex was founded by a pair of international art collectors and as such its design is suitably stylish encompassing several bar areas and a restaurant, Li Lin. Enjoy one of their signature cocktails while taking in breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.

4. Star Bar Ginza – Japan

Sankosha Building B1F, 1-5-13 Ginza, Tokyo

Hidden away in a basement the Star Bar Ginza was part of a wave of new Japanese cocktail bars to make their mark on the Tokyo drinks scene, and one which has stood the test of time. A cosy hideaway, Ginza prides itself on its classically made cocktails mixed by its skilled staff. Open until midnight cocktails are a reasonable 1,500 yen, ($17, £8.77)  with a standard cover charge of 1,000 per person on entry.

Located in the hip Bund district of Shanghai, Bar Rouge is known for its cocktails and striking decor. With a stunning skyline overlooking the Shanghai skyline there is no better place to see and be seen.

At the top of the world’s tallest hotel, the Grand Hyatt, you will find the aptly named Cloud 9. It’s three level bar complex boasts a piano bar on the 53rd floor and a spectacular patio bar on the 56th, but its crown jewell is Cloud 9 positioned on the 87th floor.

A drink in Wink will take a sizeable chunk from your wallet.
