Pol Roger and Glenfarclas sponsor Varsity Match 2012

Champagne Pol Roger and Glenfarclas single malt whisky have announced their sponsorship of the 2012 Varsity Match.

The Oxford and Cambridge captains put their rivalry aside for lunch at Hawksmoor to announce the sponsorship

First held in 1872, the annual rugby match between rival universities Oxford and Cambridge will take place at Twickenham stadium on Thursday 6 December.

The deal reinforces the strong connection between Pol Roger and Oxbridge, with the Champagne house already sponsoring the Varsity Blind Wine Tasting Match, now in its 60^th year, as well as the Varsity Real Tennis and Rackets matches.

With both Pol Roger and Glenfarclas being notable for their independent, family-owned status in the ever more consolidated Champagne and whisky categories, George Grant, sales director of Glenfarclas, stressed the complementary values shared with the Varsity Match.

“We are delighted to support such a prestigious sporting occasion that has long been the benchmark of amateur sporting achievement,” he commented, adding: “We look forward to toasting the winners of the match with a dram or two of Glenfarclas!”
