Cupari Wines brings Argentina to the UK
New wine importer represents five family-run wine estates in Argentina.
The independent estates are working with Cupari Wines to bring their boutique wines to the UK. The wineries have annual productions of between 70,000 and 100,000 litres, so Cupari Wines are focusing on supplying to independent retailers and restaurants.
Cupari Wines was formed in 2008 by Nick Smith, who bought a plot of land in the Vista Flores region of the Uco Valley, Mendoza and planted a three acre vineyard.
After starting his small vineyard Smith looked to other wines and winemakers in Argentina, with a view to exporting to the UK.
Smith said: “We are not interested in supplying big volume brands to supermarkets; our focus is on exclusive parcels to independent merchants and restaurants who want to sell individual wines with provenance and a story to tell.”
All the wines are premium, with an average retail price of £16 and the main focus is on Malbec, but other varieties include Torrontes, Bonarda, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon as well as blends.
The five wineries are Hacienda Del Plata (Luján de Cuyo), Gimenez Riili (Uco Valley), Monte Quieto (Luján de Cuyo), Familia Blanco (Luján de Cuyo), and Cupari, the company’s own label Malbec produced its first vintage in 2011.
