“Wine apartments” to open in Tokyo

A number of flats specially tailored to wine lover’s needs are to open in Tokyo next year.

Work has already begun on the Shibuya Shinsen Wine Apartment Project in Tokyo’s downtown district of Shibuya.

The project is the idea of property developer and Bordeaux Wine Bank’s Japan director, Takayuki Suzuki.

The complex will include an underground cellar with room for 10,000 bottles that is open to residents.

Decanters and glasses will also be available as will an on-site sommelier. The idea apparently came to Suzuki after realising that increasing numbers of fine wine lovers and investors had no where to store their wine in one of the most densely populated cities in the world.

The buildings are expected to be finished by September 2013.
