Top 10 wine movies

2. Bottle Shock (2009)

Alan Rickman plays Steven Spurrier in Bottle Shock, the tale of an English wine merchant in Paris who decides to pit American wines against their French forebears.
In 1976, Steven Spurrier comes to the Napa Valley to take the best he can find to Paris for a blind taste test against French wine.
Sommelier and wine shop owner Spurrier, a British expatriate living in Paris, is concerned how to save his business in his daily conversation with Maurice, a wine lover from Milwaukee. He plans to hold a blind taste-test intended to introduce Parisians to the quality wines coming from elsewhere in the world.
As Spurrier organises the “Judgment of Paris,” floundering vintner Jim Barrett (Bill Pullman) of Chateau Montelena doesn’t want to participate while Barrett’s son, Bo secretly passes on a few bottles of the chateau’s Chardonnay. The result changed the world wine map forever.

  1. Richard Gumerman says:

How could you not include “A Walk in the Clouds” in your list. It is one of the best wine movies ever.

  2. The Vintner’s Luck (by New Zealand filmmaker Niki Caro) – although apparently not as good as the book it’s based on by Elizabeth Knox.

  3. Alice says:

“Tu seras mon fils” could be added too, French movie played in St Emillion that tries to represent the difficulty of transmition inside a familly, romanced but quite accurate as well

  4. Ed Masciana says:

Sideways was the worst movie ever made, followed closely behind by Bottle Shock. Walk in the Clouds? How many ways can you spell abysmal?

  5. Joe says:

Midnight in Paris has a terrific wine tasting scene. The movie was fantastic besides.

  6. Texas Wineaux says:

Blood into Wine has GOT to be included!

Thank you for this recommendation! Probably the best wine movie I’ve ever seen!

The best thing is that you not only laugh, but you learn a lot about the process and the marketing of this marvelous product.

      Cheers from Chile,

      Al Ramirez – Sommelier

I agree that Sideways as not so great. And no inclusion of Walk in the Clouds is wrong. I am not a Keanu Reeves fan, but the movie is beautiful

It’s not a film, but an episode of A Year in Provence – Chateau Mayle. Very delightful!
