Wine Society lists native Romanian varieties
The Wine Society has listed two wines from the Prince Stirbey winery – the first Romanian wines for 50 years.
The red and white wines are both made from varieties native to Romania, Tamaioasa Romaneasca and Novac.
Winery owner Baron Jakob Kripp, stated: “Romania was missing on The Wine Society´s map for nearly 50 years. But in March 2011, its chief wine buyer Sebastian Payne MW discovered our wines and was immediately enthusiastic about our traditional Romanian grape varieties, our philosophy of natural and gentle vinification at a high quality level.
“After different tastings, The Wine Society decided to list two wines of our Prince Stirbey range: the white Tamaioasa Romaneasca, and the red Novac.
“We are delighted that in this way Romanian wines have reappeared at The Wine Society – and we are really proud that this rebirth is being celebrated with Prince Stirbey wines”.

i am trying to trace a distributor in the UK for Tamaioasa Romaneasca for my father He is into reminiscing – at the age of 83 – and he keeps talking about this wine. He drank it over thirty years ago and we are trying to trace a bottle for his birthday in December.
Any help you cna give would be much appreciated.
