Rugby star climbs WSET rankings

Former England rugby international Andrew Sheridan has been awarded his WSET Level 3 (Advanced) Award.

Having completed the course with the online distance learning programme, Sheridan was given his certificate by chief executive Ian Harris at the WSET’s offices in Bermondsey.

Harris said: “I was delighted that Andrew was able to come to London in person to receive his certificate, and it was all the more relevant for me, as Andrew and I both attended the same school – Dulwich College – albeit a quarter of a century apart. We had a great deal to discuss.”

Sheridan, who plays for Sale Sharks, was in London for only a short time before heading north again where his team faced London Wasps, a match they won 46-34.

The loosehead prop is apparently keen to continue his wine education and start on his diploma as soon as possible.

Although still returning to form after sustaining a shoulder injury in the last World Cup against Argentina, he is to leave Sale at the end of this season to join Toulon where he will join fellow English internationals Jonny Wilkinson and Simon Shaw.

Being based in the south of France should of course provide him with an excellent opportunity to explore the wines of Provence and the Rhône.
