Lansley to address UK drinks trade
UK health secretary Andrew Lansley is to give the keynote address at next month’s annual WSTA Conference.
Lansley (left) is leading the government’s Public Health Responsibility Deal, designed to encourage businesses to make voluntary commitments aimed at tackling public health issues, including alcohol misuse.
The second phase of Responsibility Deal discussions on alcohol gets under way later this month with separate stakeholder groups focusing on retail principles; lower alcohol alternatives; and alcohol education.
The WSTA conference, hosted by chairman Tim How, will be held in London on Wednesday, 14 September.
Nick Hyde, managing director of Diageo Wines Europe, is among a panel of speakers who will be debating a range of issues affecting the sector.
It will feature analysis of the latest trade data from Nielsen and consider future consumer trends, with a presentation from Pula Houghton, head of economic policy for Which?
WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles, who also co-chairs the Public Health Responsibility Deal’s alcohol network, said: “As ever the WSTA conference provides a forum to mix with some of the biggest names in the business and this year‘s cast list ensures there will be plenty to debate and discuss.
