Wine Innovation profile: Mia

Mia is the personal project of winemaker Gloria Collell, who feels passionately about Spain’s indigenous grape varieties and about getting them the international recognition which she believes they deserve.

Drawing on the 150-year winemaking heritage of the Freixenet family and their network of grape-growers, Collel has developed fruit-driven, easy-drinking wines, crafted to bring out the best of the distinctive Spanish grapes.

Deliberately designed to represent the vibrancy and modernity of her native Barcelona, the blends reflect the style of wine which Collell herself enjoys with family and friends.

All aspects of Mia have been focused on a premium, energetic and vibrant brand, representing a significant move towards modern, stylish Spanish wines.

On-shelf the bottle will have great stand-out; on wine lists Mia will represent an easy-drinking, value for money addition – with the backing of the Freixenet family providing reassurance to consumers.

The name Mia, meaning “mine” in Spanish, reflects Collell’s sense of ownership of the wines which she is confident will convert many of today’s wine drinkers to the rich quality of Spanish wine.

Mia is one of the entrants in this year’s Wine Innovation Awards. Click here for more details
