Wine Innovation profile: Schmitt Sohne

Schmitt Söhne winery was established over 200 years ago in the small village of Longuich, located along the Mosel River in Germany. The philosophy was to produce the best wines possible using only top quality grapes from each successive vintage.

Schmitt Söhne, one of the entries in this year’s Wine Innovation Masters, is still located in Longuich and has continued to grow and develop through the guidance of four successive generations to become one of the largest and most successful German wine exporters today.

The current president of Schmitt Söhne, Thomas Schmitt, has adopted his ancestors’ philosophy of "top quality grapes, skilful and meticulous production of wines, combined with comprehensible packaging and superior customer service".

Schmitt Söhne has evolved into a modern facility producing exceptional wines at affordable prices with sales and shipments all over the world.

It has established its own import companies in several countries, including the US, to encourage better customer service and to ensure proper compliance and availability.

Increased production capabilities to meet the expected demands, updated and expanded computer network to efficiently handle all aspects of the winery, from quality control to customer service and shipments, are the company’s priorities.

This also includes the guidance of processes documented by DIN EN ISO 2001:2000 and HACCP, IFS International Food Standard (higher level) as well as BRC Global Food Standard (higher level).

Our wine assortment includes wines from the German growing regions Mösel, Pfalz, Nahe and Rheinhessen. Providing customers own labels as well as brands like Relax, Fünf and Thomas Schmitt Private Collection. Further details can be obtained from www.schmitt-soehne.com
