Wine writer develops label-scanning mobile app

American wine writer Natalie MacLean has developed a smartphone app that gives shoppers access to tasting notes, scores, prices and food pairings when they take a picture of their chosen wine bottle’s label barcode.

The free Natalie MacLean Wine Picks & Pairings app allows you to search over 150,000 wine product codes, track purchases in your virtual cellar and create a wine journal featuring your own tasting notes and pictures.

“You just need to point and click to find out if that Shiraz actually is a good wine to go with your steak, or if the sauvignon blanc would work with your grilled vegetables. No more guesswork,” says MacLean, who created the tool to make buying wine easier for consumers.

The Wine Picks & Pairings app is the next generation of MacLean’s mobile app, which features 700,000 wine picks and food pairing suggestions a month.

The app, designed by Fluid Trends, bundles a suite of apps including wine reviews, cellar journals, recipes, food pairings, blog posts, a wine glossary, and a directory of wineries around the world.
