Appointments prove global fine wine expansion

Evidence of an expanding international fine wine market is growing, with a number of new appointments in the sector.

Bordeaux Wine Investments (BWI) has taken on Master of Wine Sarah Abbott as consultant while The Antique Wine Company has signed up Sonal Holland (pictured) as its country representative based in Mumbai, India.

At BWI, Abbott will have a significant contribution to the future strategy of the Bordeaux specalist wine merchant.

In particular she has been tasked to help create a program of wine tastings and events and contribute to the company’s wine lists and BWI’s wine buying.

Sonal Holland has similarly been appointed to help expand The Antique Wine Company’s operations, with a brief to develop the company’s client base within India across all segments of the fine wine market, from private individuals and luxury hotels to the finance and investment sector.

Managing director of the company, Stephen Williams, said:  “With India set to become the fifth largest economy in the world by 2020, coupled with the rising number of Indian high net worth individuals each year, consumption of very fine wine is certain to increase.”

“We also foresee the market for alternative investments including fine wine becoming an increasing proportion of Indian investor’s portfolios,” he added.
