Texture team opens 28-50

The team behind west end hotspot Texture are getting set to open their latest wine-centric bar and restaurant in London, 28-50 Wine Workshop & Kitchen.

The new 60-seat venue is located in Fetter Lane in the City. Paul Walsh has been brought in from Restaurant Gordon Ramsay as head chef to oversee a French bistro-style menu.

The aim is to provide diners with exceptional wines and classic French food at competitive and affordable prices, from rib-eye steak to red mullet fillet and bouillabaisse.

With over 30 wines on its list, owners Xavier Rousset and Agnar Sverrisson want their latest project to have the same emphasis on wine as Texture, but to feel more informal.

Their desire for a relaxed environment is reflected by the interiors, which feature exposed brick walls and stripped wooden floors.

Rousset, formerly head sommelier at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, where he and Sverrisson met, has also compiled a “private collectors list” of wines from the cellars and wineries of his own contacts in addition to the standard wine list.

All of the wines will be available by the glass, carafe and bottle and the list will be constantly changing. Daily specials will be matched to specific wines from the drinks menu.

The name of the restaurant references the latitudes between which most of the world’s vineyard regions lie.

28-50 is open for lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday.
