London grocer to showcase Rothschild wines
West London is soon to gain an upmarket green grocer with an emphasis on wines from the Rothschild family, including the first ever Champagne made jointly by the three Rothschild wine stables.
Located in the old Fulham Broadway tube station, the new store, called Union Market, will showcase high quality British food and list wines from £5 to £400.
Although the shop is not due to open until next month, its wine website has already gone live, listing over 60 Rothschild family wines including Chåteau Lafite from Domaines Baron de Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild from Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
Interestingly, a bottle of Mouton Rothschild 1999 and 1990 are shown on the new website at £300 and £375 respectively, which is around £100 more than one would pay buying the same wine through fine wine merchants such as Fine & Rare or Turville Valley Wines.
On the other hand, Carruades de Lafite 1996 is listed at £225 and Chåteau Lafite 2002 from £400, which is cheaper than much of the fine wine merchant competition.
Speaking of the wine range at the grocer, Tony Bromovsky, founder and commercial director of Union Market said: “When it came to sourcing our wine range, we knew we required a mix of classic old world and contemporary new world wines. No other winemaking family manages to span these two areas as seamlessly as the Rothschilds.”
Christopher Campbell, from Rothschild Waddesdon, added: “The utmost care and attention has gone into making this selection and we are sure that customers will be delighted with what Union Market has to offer.”
Union Market’s wine selection will cover Argentina, Australia, California, Chile, France, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, Romania and South Africa.
Also on offer will be Waddesdon’s own label Champagne; a sparkling Prosecco; and the first-ever Champagne made jointly by the three Rothschild wine stables.
The latter wine, exclusive to Union Market and called Barons de Rothschild, is a Brut NV with an RRP of £45.
Aside from Rothschild Wine, Union Market, which is planning to open in July at 472 Fulham Road, will also house bread from the Bread Factory and cheese from Neal’s Yard Dairy.
The wine range at the grocer will be the same as that currently found online.
