Koshu comes to London

For the first time in London, Koshu of Japan (KOJ) is proud to present an exclusive tasting of wines from the Yamanashi Prefecture.

 Date: Friday 15 January 2009
 Time: 10.30am – 4.30pm
(a light lunch will be available from 12.30pm)
Place: The Imagination Gallery, South Crescent,
25 Store Street, London WC1E 7BL

The leading producers of the Yamanashi Prefecture have joined together to introduce their wines on the global stage. This is the first time that a selection of Koshu will be shown outside of its home country.

Koshu is Japan’s principal white wine, light, elegant and quite moderate in alcohol.

This tasting has been designed to introduce the Koshu wines to the UK trade and press, and is part of a wider campaign in 2010. All the producers will be attending the tasting and will be looking for distribution in the UK.

The Koshu grape is a Vitis Vinfera white varietal indigenous to Japan that has been cultivated for around 1300 years. The vineyards of the Yamanashi Prefecture lie an hour and a half east of Tokyo and the region is ringed by mountains, including the majestic Mount Fuji on its southern border. The wineries in this area produce 95% of the nation’s Koshu production. Fifteen producers will showcase their wines at the tasting in London, offering a broad range of styles.

Koshu is well-known for its delicacy and subtle flavours.  To preserve the aroma, the wines are more typically fermented in stainless steel tanks, without oak influence. Koshu’s elegance makes it an ideal match for Japanese cuisine, but is also a great choice as an accompaniment to today’s lighter, healthier style of cooking.

We hope you can join us for the most exciting and original tasting in the New Year!
