Reader recommends: The Foundry Wine Bar & Restaurant

“The Foundry is a must for anyone visiting or living near the still thriving city of Leeds, UK," writes Martin Abell, export area manager for Bodegas Barbadillo.

"It opened four years ago in the old round foundry area of Leeds, just over the bridge from the Hilton, and is a stone’s throw from the ASDA head offices and Leeds City centre."

“Fantastic seasonal locally/quality sourced food, well/simply cooked in both a modern and traditional way. Great wine and drinks list put together by very experienced owners, Leeds restaurateurs Phil Richardson and Shaun Davies – not at London prices!
“Atmosphere always buzzing at the bar, in the restaurant or on the heated courtyard terrace, come rain or shine. Amazing value new lunch menus – 2 or 3 courses. For dinner at the weekends make sure you book or it might be fish and chips instead.
“You’re likely to mix at the bar with Leeds United legends new and old. Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray, Simon Grayson and Ken Bates are regulars and I can see why!”
db says: With a Champagne list like this, you can see why it’s a hit with the footballers. An interesting wine selection with over 100 bins, ranging from the big names (Mouton Rothschild ‘96 anyone?) to some less discovered options from around the world including, rather appropriately, The Foundry in Stellenbosch. House wines available from £16 a bottle, but also on offer by the glass or 50cl bottle.
