Major US drinks producer, Vincor International Inc completed the deal on the purchase of Australia’s privately owned Amberley Estate Pty Ltd in the Margaret River region.

Vincor paid a total of A$24.8m in cash for the winery’s shares, while assuming some A$10.4m worth of debt in the deal.  This latest acquisition, claims the company, will complement its previous investments in Australia, including Goundrey vineyards.

Meanwhile, SAB Miller, the world’s second largest brewer, announced that it was investing more than US$46m in joint ventures on the African continent.  In conjunction with the French-based Castel group, the brewing giant has invested in Algeria by acquiring a 25% stake in two of its carbonated soft drink plants, an Algerian brewery and a Castel majority-owned brewery in the region.

It has also invested in Castel operations in Morocco, by taking a 25% stake in the operating and holding company for three breweries, as well as a wet depot in the country.

Bonny Doon Vineyard annouced increases in sales volume of 22% for 2003.  At the same time, the company’s vice president for sales and marketing, David Amadia, also revealed that the winery, which sold 288,000 cases during the last calendar year, was adopting the Stelvin screwcap across the whole of its portfolio.
