Coors closes visitor centre
The Coors Visitor centre in Burton will close at the end of June, the brewer announced yesterday. While the museum, gift shop, meeting rooms and Brewery Tap bar and restaurant will all close, the White Shield microbrewery will remain in operation.
The company attributed the closure of the centre to the difficult times currently being faced by brewers. As Coors business services director Keith Donald explained: “The UK beer market is extremely tough – for all brewers.” He added: “We have tried everything to make the CVC viable… despite this, visitor numbers have continued to fall and the subsidy needed has increased.” According to Donald, the centre costs £1 million per year to run.
Donald commented: “This is a hard decision not only for our employees, but for our commitment to the local community.” The centre, formerly known as the Bass Museum, also houses the tourist information centre for East Staffordshire Borough. The brewer will honour bookings confirmed until the end of the year.
