“This chapter has closed sooner than I had imagined, but I leave proud, grateful, and excited for what comes next,” Carey said in a LinkedIn post yesterday (14 August).

Carey joined Proof Creative in January 2019 as bar consultant. He has spent the last two years leading the agency team as creative director.

He told db this morning: “My time at Proof Creative has been nothing short of extraordinary. Over nearly seven years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a truly world-class team, based across Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Australia, yet delivering hospitality projects on a genuinely global stage. Together, we’ve helped create and launch bars and hotels across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, Oceania and Africa — many of which have gone on to be recognised at the very highest levels, from World’s & Asia’s 50 Best Bars to Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.

“It’s been an honour to collaborate with visionary hoteliers, chefs, and bartenders, shaping experiences that resonate with guests long after their visit. Whether it was opening a landmark property in Tokyo, a hidden speakeasy in the Middle East, or a beach bar in the Seychelles, the diversity of our work was matched only by the passion and creativity of the people delivering it.

“While my own chapter with Proof Creative has now closed, the rest of the team remains operational, and I know they’ll continue to set the benchmark for innovative, high-touch hospitality around the world. I wish them nothing but success as they carry that legacy forward.”

Carey said he still remains “deeply committed” to the hospitality industry. “The relationships, trust, and creative partnerships built over the years are what I value most, and I’m excited to see where those connections lead in the future,” he said.

Proof Creative is the bar and beverage consultancy firm owned and operated by Proof & Company.

The company announced in July that it has folded its Singapore-based spirits arm after 13 years in operation, citing “markedly different” market conditions. The decision left 16 employees out of jobs.

It attributed the liquidation to “mounting challenges for the F&B and hospitality industry in Singapore, including the closure of some of the company’s longest-standing restaurant and bar customers”.

The company’s distribution network spanned four markets – Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand – with a global turnover of SG$34 million (£19.68m), and generated SG$7m (£4.05m) from its Singapore operations.

In April this year, Proof & Company’s Australian arm was put under voluntary administration, with the company citing “local economic downturn”.
