Wines of Lisboa announces Manchester tasting
A host of producers will take over King Street Townhouse in Manchester, while Patrick Schmitt MW will host a masterclass on Wines of Lisboa.
On 22 September, Wines of Lisboa heads to northwest England for a journey through the Atlantic-influenced wine region. Taking place at King Street Townhouse, the day’s tasting will bring a range of Lisboa wines to the vibrant city’s centre.
The region spans 10,000 hectares in a strip between the Atlantic Ocean and inland hills. As an umbrella appellation spanning nine separate DOs, the region has significant variety in its terroirs. Buyers can also find a range of grape varieties, including indigenous Portuguese grapes like Touriga Nacional, Arinto and Ramisco – a local grape rescued from near extinction. Combined with Lisbon’s appeal as a cultural and gastronomic destination, this unique winemaking has made Lisboa a region to watch.
The day will feature a walkaround tasting and a free-pour area, with some of the region’s most esteemed producers on display: Quinta do Pinto, Félix Rocha, Lindeborg Wines, DFJ Vinhos, Quinta Vale Benfeito and Aveleda. Patrick Schmitt MW will also host a masterclass, providing attendees with a whistle-stop tour of the region.

September’s Manchester event continues a flurry of activity for the region, as it courts the UK trade. Last year it hosted a tasting event in London, while just last week producers visited the capital to attend a press dinner and to participate in masterclasses at National Geographic Traveller Food Festival.
As part of the promotional activities, the regional body invited columnist and wine expert Libby Brodie to visit the Lisboa region, meet its producers and sample its wines. She recently shared her experiences in Portugal with Patrick Schmitt MW on an episode of the drinks business podcast.
