Terra Organica showcases versatility of organic wines

Watermill Wines’ Terra Organica range has been championing organic, sustainable wines for more than 20 years.

Terra Organica

Terra Organica by Hampshire-based Watermill Wines sources wines worldwide to showcase its ethos of ‘believing that good wine shouldn’t cost the earth’. The range offers certified organic and vegan-friendly wines from mostly independent wineries and family-run businesses from Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Chile, and Argentina under one label.

The range not only shines the light on the versatility of organic wines, but also aims to prove that good quality, sustainable wines are made worldwide. Terra Organica taps into a growing category, which, according to InsightAce Analytic Pvt Ltd forecasting, is expected to more than triple in value by 2030.

Last year, the brand introduced its Parcel Series, highlighting lesser-known organically cultivated grape varieties. The first wine in the series, Grillo from Sicilia DOC, Italy, comes from Cantina Ottoventi, based in the province of Trapani. This year, the series was extended with a second parcel from Weingut Huber in Niederösterreich, Austria, showcasing the Grüner Veltliner varietal.

With a commitment to sustainability, Terra Organica is a member of 1% For The Planet and donates 1% of its revenue to planet-friendly causes annually.

At this year’s Global Wine Masters, Terra Organica’s wines were blind-tasted and recognised with five medals.

A good-value, expressive, fruity-fresh Italian fizz that’s also organic, Terra Organica’s Prosecco is a find. Flavour-wise, it’s rich in fleshy peach and ripe pear, along with juicy orange and sweet apple, while texturally there’s a creamy sensation from the bubbles and just enough zestiness on the finish to keep one sipping. A brilliant white wine for around £10, this organic Grillo from Sicily is quite powerfully flavoured but still fresh and moderate when it comes to ABV. Among the flavours are peach and pear, even a touch of pineapple, followed by a hint of bitter almond, and while the wine has a mid-palate richness, the finish is dry and mouth-watering. A fine, affordable, organic Austrian white showing the appealing and distinctive flavours of the Gruner Veltliner grape. That means some ripe peach at the core, followed by some refreshing lime-like characters on the finish, complemented by a peppery note, and a touch of grapefruit pith too. In short, this is a lingering and layered white wine that won’t fail to refresh. (Patrick Schmitt MW)

Named for the La Eralta cheese-making facility (Quesería) in Bergasa in Rioja Oriental, this organic wine is made for more than matching the fabulous artisanal cheeses. Produced from specific parcels of organically-grown grapes around Argoncilla in Rioja Oriental and Alavesa, this wine shows a medium cherry colour and blackberry and black cherry fruit with smoky oak and hints of earth and rhododendron flowers. The palate has vibrant fruit framed by lively acidity and dense, silky-textured tannins. Concentrated, layered and textured with plenty of intriguing spices, the wine is a good pairing for chicken and seafood paella. Excellent value! (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
