Graham Lyons cellar starts Sotheby’s London season

Auctioneer Sotheby’s is beginning its Autumn series of wine sales in London this week with a consignment from the cellar of famed collector Graham Lyons.

Up for sale on 16 October, the sale features over 670 lots and is expected to fetch in the region of £1.2 million.

Highlights of the Lyons collection include magnums of 1947 Cheval Blanc and 1982 Petrus and an imperial of 1982 Mouton Rothschild from among the Bordeaux, as well as 1990 Chambertin from Rousseau and 1978 Hermitage La Chapelle.

Elsewhere there are Barolos and Super Tuscans from the 1970s and ‘80s, an array of top German wines from JJ Prüm and Dr Loosen and an incredible array of supremely rare sweet and fortified wines including a bottle of Constantia from either 1791 or 1809 (pictured), mid-19th century Madeira and Second World War-era Massandra, the famous Crimean winery.
