Smart wine rack makes organising your wine easy

A crowd-funded smart wine rack that lets you know when your wines have reached their drinking window and suggests pairings is in development.

The Caveasy One app and wine rack

A large wine collection can be hard work. Keeping track of how long to age each bottle, and even finding the wine you’re after, can quickly grow tiresome. Now, as with most things, there’s an app for that.

The Caveasy One is a ‘smart wine rack’ that connects to a mobile app via Bluetooth. It sends a smartphone alert when a wine has reached it’s apogee and also monitors temperature and humidity to protect your most treasured purchases. The rack will be available from June at €449 (£399/US$531.87) for a 50 bottle rack.

Caveasy is the brainchild of a group of entrepreneurs who submitted the idea as part of a wine innovation pitch contest at VinoCamp Paris 2015. They won both the jury prize and the public award, and since then have been crowd-funding the product. They hit their target in November.

The app uses photo capture technology so collectors need only take a picture of each new wine to log it in their digital cellar. When the bottle is then placed on the rack, sensors know where it is and when chosen for drinking, an LED light will blink to show its location.

The app also automatically removes a wine from your collection once it’s removed from the rack.

A medium rack accommodates 50 bottles, but the app lets you track up to 1,280 with the purchase of additional trays. The app can also pair a wine from your collection with your meal and suggest wines to seek out based on your purchasing habits. Sensors in the rack also let you monitor the temperature and humidity of your wine.
