Wondering Wine Company launches Shoreditch pop-up

The Wondering Wine Company is targeting London millennials with the launch of a ‘Wondering Wine Kitchen’ in Shoreditch.

The company, which operates as Bibendum’s mobile wine bar business and appears at major events across the UK including the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Magic FM Summer Live and London’s Winter Wonderland, has been searching for a permanent space for some time.

Now, in partnership with TFL and pop-up booking agent Appear Here, it has found a semi-permanent site for its Wondering Wine Kitchen in the Magic Roundabout in Old Street tube station.

Selling a range of quality wines, craft beers, spirits and soft drinks, the kitchen will provide both an on and off-trade offering to Old Street residents, local businesses and commuters from now until March 2017.

The list of drinks draws on the Wondering Wine Company’s access to products from its distribution partners, Bibendum, PLB and Walker & Wodehouse.

How can wine producers cater to the tastes of millennials?

The line-up includes a selection of wines on tap, red, white and rose wines, a selection of sweet wines and a handful of Sherries. There will also be rotating wine flights for people who want to sample several of the wines in the Wondering Wine Company’s range.

The menu for the kitchen has been put together by on-site chef Marco Jerrentrup (former head chef at The Cut at The Young Vic) and includes a selection of sourdough toasties, cheese and charcuterie sharing platters, and small plates including chisotorra (white sausage from Navarra) with pistachio sauce and white beans; juniper smoked salmon tamari, lime and shallot praline; and roast aubergine with basil, feta cheese, rosemary and honey.

The Wondering Wine Kitchen will also be available for private bookings for office Christmas parties and social gatherings. It will also be running a calendar of fortnightly supper clubs, for guests interested in learning more about wine and food matching.

“We have been looking for a permanent space for the Wondering Wine Company for some time and we are delighted to have found such a great spot,” said Simon Swift of the Wondering Wine Company.

“The Old Street crowd is the perfect audience for trialling this new concept. We will be offering the great wine that we always have, with great food in a relaxed and stylish environment.”
