New Generation Wines snaps up Bancroft Wines

Wine importer and distributor New Generation Wines is set to acquire Bancroft Wines as it seeks to expand its market reach in the UK, and steel itself against economic pressures.

The deal unites the two established wine importers with the aim of creating a larger business serving retailers, hospitality operators and other trade customers across the UK.

New Generation Wines, a specialist importer and wholesaler of premium wines, said the combined company would benefit from a broader portfolio of producers, greater market reach and increased scale, which it believes will make its long-term growth prospects stronger.

Managing director James McKenna described the acquisition as an investment in the company’s future. “By bringing together two businesses with shared values, complementary strengths and a passion for building premium wine brands, we’re creating a stronger platform for sustainable growth,” he said.

New Generation Wines’ portfolio of producers currently includes Boekenhoutskloof, The Chocolate Block, Porseleinberg, Porcupine Ridge and Robertson.

Phased integration

The company said there would be no immediate changes for customers or suppliers while the businesses are integrated. Existing customer contacts, ordering processes and supplier relationships will remain unchanged during the initial transition period.

A phased integration is expected to take place over the coming months, with full operational integration planned for January 2027.

“Our focus is on combining the best of both businesses while maintaining the strong relationships that have made each company successful,” added McKenna. “Together we’re better equipped for current market conditions, and well placed to take advantage of future growth opportunities.”

Grappling with challenges

The acquisition comes at a time when the UK wine sector continues to face economic pressures, including changing consumer spending patterns and wider challenges affecting the hospitality and retail industries.

Despite those conditions, New Generation Wines said it remained confident that the enlarged business would be well placed to support producers and customers while pursuing future growth opportunities.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
