Brakspear snaps up three more pubs to boost its estate
Brakspear has expanded its leased and tenanted estate with the addition of three pubs in Surrey which it has acquired from Grosvenor Pubs and Inns. db reports.

Brakspear, which currently has around 110 leased and tenanted pubs, and a further 12 in its managed division named Honeycomb Houses has a portfolio pubs are based in the south-east, with an estate stretching from Dover and the south coast up to the Cotswolds.
Its newest pubs for its tenanted and leased estate, which it has acquired as part of the deal, include: The Cricketers on the Green in Pirbright, The Kings Arms in Egham and The Duke of Cambridge in Tilford, near Farnham.
According to Brakspear, the transition of the pubs from Grosvenor Pubs and Inns will be “seamless” even though The Cricketers on the Green will close for a four-week refurbishment period which has been designed to “strengthen its appeal ahead of the key summer trading season”.
Location, reputation and talent
Speaking to the drinks business about securing the sites, Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said: “These pubs are a great addition to our estate: excellent locations, good reputations in their locality and most importantly, talented and dynamic operators to take them forward.”
He also pointed out that the business was in no rush when it came to selecting the right venues for Brakspear’s portfolio and told db that “as a family-run, independent pub operator, we are able to take the long view on the future of our pubs”.

Davies explained: “We know that it takes time and hard work to turn a good pub into a great one, and we are looking forward to supporting our operators and teams on their journey.”
He went on to reiterate how pubs remain “the fabric of our society” and lamented about its current struggles and noted how “hospitality faces many challenges today”.
Playing a part
Davies assured db that “by taking on the right pubs and developing them to reach their full potential, we at Brakspear can play our part in ensuring that our wonderful industry not only survives, but thrives”.
He added: “Pubs are part of the fabric of our society and we want future generations to enjoy them, as places to drink, eat, meet friends and family and, for many, to find rewarding employment.”
Existing Brakspear business owners [Brakspear’s term for its tenants and lessees] are set to take the reins ar two of the new pubs. Namely, Manu Bhatt, operator of pubs including The Running Horses in Surrey and The Leicester Arms in Kent, will be taking The Cricketers on the Green while Will Buck, the operator at The George Inn near Bedford, will take on The Kings Arms. Meanwhile, at The Duke of Cambridge, the pub’s current general manager Paul Grieve will become the new business owner.
