India Dry Days April 2026: When are they?
In April, three key dates are set to trigger official Dry Days in many states across India – meaning alcohol sales will be banned at liquor shops, while bars, clubs and restaurants will be barred from serving alcohol.
In April 2026, the days that are expected to be observed as dry days across many parts of India include:
- Friday 3 April 2026 – Good Friday
- Friday 10 April 2026 – Mahavir Jayanti (observed in several states)
- Tuesday 14 April 2026 – Ambedkar Jayanti
During dry days, alcohol sales are banned across retail and hospitality outlets – including in shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Licensed establishments must remain closed for alcohol service, but drinking privately at home is generally permitted.
Dry days are not the same across the whole country, and some states may add or remove certain dry days based on local regulations.

Regional differences
Additionally, regional authorities in different states may opt to add or change dry days based on local festivals and customs, and in some cities, added restrictions may be imposed in accordance with major public or religious events.
Five dry days took place in Delhi between the period of January and March for instance, including Republic Day and Maha Shivratri.
Last month, the state of Maharashtra also enacted a four-day dry period in 29 civic body areas, including Mumbai, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, banning alcohol sales and consumption as the state geared up to civic body elections.
