Sager + Wilde to host International Women’s Day by-the-glass takeover

The East London wine bar will celebrate 8 March 2026 with a one-day by-the-glass list curated by women shaping wine and hospitality, against the backdrop of its 13-year legacy.

Sager + Wilde will mark International Women’s Day on 8 March 2026 with a one-day, by-the-glass wine takeover celebrating women working across the wine and hospitality industry.

The event will be curated and hosted by three established figures in the sector: Margaux Aubry, founder of Naughty Piglets; Ana Candida Ferraz of Higher Ground and Flawd; and Laís Aoki, general manager at Sager + Wilde.

Rare pours and female winemakers

Aubry and Ferraz will each open bottles from their private cellars, offering rare, character-driven wines by the glass. Alongside these pours, Aoki will present a by-the-glass list made up exclusively of wines produced by female winemakers, with an emphasis on accessibility, balance and drinkability.

Food for the day will be prepared by Aubry and will include her signature jambon-beurre sandwiches, served alongside fresh oysters.

A defining force in London wine culture

The International Women’s Day event sits within the broader context of Sager + Wilde’s role in shaping London’s modern wine bar culture. Founded in 2012 by Michael Sager on Hackney Road, the venue was built around a simple but disruptive idea: to pour world-class wines at fair prices and strip away the formality that often surrounds fine wine.

At a time when rare bottles were largely confined to fine dining and high mark-ups, Sager + Wilde helped normalise the idea of drinking serious wine in a relaxed bar setting. Thirteen years on, it has become a reference point for sommeliers, winemakers and wine professionals, known for its ever-changing by-the-glass selection, including cellar-level bottles served via Coravin, and a deep list spanning cult producers, classic regions and emerging names.

The bar is now led by Aoki alongside a senior team with experience across some of London’s most respected restaurants, maintaining the venue’s focus on knowledgeable but informal service. Its food offering mirrors the wine philosophy: bold, unfussy dishes designed to be shared and enjoyed alongside the glass.

The International Women’s Day takeover reflects both Sager + Wilde’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and its place as a gathering point for those shaping the wine industry, using a single day of service to spotlight female talent across production, buying and hospitality.
