Pernod Ricard sells Mumm Napa to Trinchero in portfolio shake-up
The French spirits group Pernod Ricard is continuing to streamline its wine holdings by offloading its US sparkling wine arm.

Pernod Ricard has continued the pruning of its portfolio by agreeing to sell the Mumm Napa sparkling wine business to Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits for an undisclosed sum.
Trinchero will have exclusive rights to manufacture and produce Mumm sparkling wines in the United States and market and distribute them across the United States, Canada, Mexico and select Caribbean markets.
The deal covers Mumm Sparkling California, Mumm Napa and DVX.
Champagne interests retained by Pernod Ricard
The French group stressed that the deal, which will be finalised in the spring, does not include any of its Mumm Champagne interests or other international Mumm sparkling wines, which it is retaining along with Perrier Jouet.
There had been speculation that Pernod Ricard might sell the whole Mumm business as part of its continuing focus on premium spirits brands and axing activities which it regards as not providing sufficient returns on capital.

Part of wider divestment strategy
The most notable aspect of this strategy was the selling of its Australian, New Zealand and Spanish wine interests to Vinarchy earlier this year.
By adding Mumm Napa to its portfolio, which is headed by Sutter Home, the family-owned Trinchero will expand its premium portfolio and strengthen its position as a significant US wine supplier.
Napa winery and facilities included
It will take over ownership of the Mumm Napa destination winery and the production facilities located in Rutherford, Napa Valley.
Mumm Napa was established as Domaine Mumm in 1979 as part of the California rush by several Champagne houses, including Moet & Chandon, Taittinger and Louis Roederer.
It produced its first wine in 1983, later becoming Mumm Napa in 1990.
Major player in California sparkling wine
Last year, the estate produced 334,000 cases of wines retailing from around $20 to more than $100. In 2021 it produced 410,000 cases.
It is the third largest California sparkler behind only Korbel and Chandon by volume.
