“Thank you and farewell,” read the first line of the post on Rosemead’s Instagram page which announced its closure. “After nearly four years, we’re closing this chapter with the same passion and pride that brought it to life. Rosemead’s last day of service will be on Saturday, 26 July 2025,” the post continued.

A separate post on Sugarhall’s Instagram account, also posted on 1 July, announced its closure. “Sugarhall has been home to rummin’ good times, delicious bowls of indomie, and plenty of shared nightcaps. We’re so thankful for everyone who’s come through our hall – thank you for being part of our journey,” the post read.

The two venues, which opened in December 2021 and March 2022 respectively, are located in the same heritage building in Cecil Street, Singapore.

Jigger & Pony Group told db this morning that Sugarhall will be undergoing a renovation to make way for a brand new cocktail bar concept.

“At the same time, we have accepted an offer to take over the Rosemead space,” a representative statement read.

When questioned over the reasons behind the two closures, the group said it “remains in a strong position”.

Jigger & Pony Group also owns restaurants Caffe Fernet and Humpback, and cocktail bars Jigger & Pony, Live Twice, Gibson, and Cosmo Pony in Jakarta, all of which it said were “doing well”.

The group revealed that it is also actively searching for a space to develop “an exciting new bar concept in Singapore”.

Singapore’s bar scene is weathering challenging times at the moment, with a number of venues shuttering in recent months. Natural wine bars Rebel Rebel and Wine RVLT are among more than 3,000 venues in Singapore which have closed their doors in recent months, highlighting the difficult trading environment faced by the city state’s on-trade.

Jigger & Pony Group, founded by husband and wife team Indra Kantono and Guoyi Gan, expanded into Indonesia in 2024 with cocktail spot Cosmo Pony, a joint venture with Indonesia’s Union Group. Read more on the group’s Indonesia venture here.
