Chef Michael Caines confirms restaurant sale
Michael Caines, the chef behind a number of West Country restaurants, has confirmed that his Exmouth eatery is now under new ownership.

The chef, who is perhaps best-known for his Michelin-starred Lympstone Manor, on the outskirts of Exmouth, revealed that he had placed his more casual Mickeys Beach Bar and Restaurant and Café Patisserie Glacerie on the market earlier this month.
“On behalf of all the team we would like to thank our customers and suppliers for your support, we have thoroughly enjoyed serving each and everyone of you and making Mickeys and the Café a special place to meet by the sea,” said Caines. “I would also like to thank my team for their unwavering support and dedication, despite challenging times we have had, I am proud of what we have been able to create.”
Now, as reported by local media outlet Exmouth Journal, the eatery is now under the ownership of Swim Lyme Regis (which also has a beachside restaurant of the same name in Dorset).
Caines said that he was “delighted” to share “the sale of the business to another local business operator who shares a similar passion, for fun relaxed dining”.
Details of when the restaurant will reopen are expected to be released soon.
The sale is a further indication of how Caines has been scaling back his restaurant portfolio. In January of this year db reported that he had placed one of his Cornish restaurants, The Cove, near Falmouth, on the market, and that the other, The Harbourside Refuge, in Porthleven, had been sold. In the case of the latter, he had announced two years ago that it would be shutting during the winter due to soaring costs and staff shortages.
