FemAle Brew Fest grows to more than 40 breweries
The annual FemAle Brew Fest returns this weekend at Las Olas Oceanside Park in Fort Lauderdale, showcasing the best in female brewing talent.
FemAle Brew Fest founder Frances Antonio-Martineau told local news outlets: “We are celebrating eight years this year in our brand new location on Fort Lauderdale Beach.”
The event, which began back in 2017, began in a much smaller sense and has now grown to represent the female brewing champions from US craft breweries.
Describing how things have developed, Antonio-Martineau explained how back in 2017 the event “had about 15 breweries” but revealed that now “fast forward to 2024 [and] we’re up to 40 breweries and growing each year, so it’s very exciting”.
Despite the great strides the event has made in how it has assisted women working in beer to be seen, Antonio-Marineau admitted there is still a long way to go for female brewers to break the glass ceiling.
Antonio-Martineau agreed: “It helps with representation, showing women out there that they’re not alone if they decide to jump into the industry.”
She revealed that the event would also be expanding its assortment of vendors and divulged how “this year we’re introducing Cider Kombucha, as well as wine vendors”.
The festival is also unveiling its own beer this year in the form of a Pilsner named Fangs of Time.
Antonio-Martineau added: “Palates change, everybody evolves, which is why I try to evolve the festival as well, which is why this year we’re incorporating some educational workshops. Each ticket includes unlimited samplings of all of the vendors we have. I tell everybody it is different from any craft beer festival…the camaraderie and the atmosphere that occurs during the fest is just indescribable.”
